HIGHLY RECOMMEND! Honestly I had my doubts with only 14 reviews and figured I could return it free with Prime if this camera didn’t live up to my expectations but after trying it out today, I must say that I’m really impressed. There are so many pros to this system that I couldn’t give it anything but 5 stars.
PROS:
1. Ease of setup/use – powered on the camera (it came fully charged), plugged in the monitor and it was up and running, no pairing, easy menu options, although the menu buttons on the side of the monitor would be easier to operate than on the back. There is a one touch button for the park distance lines which is nice but again it’s on the back so you either have to feel where it is or take the monitor off the mount to push.
2. Range – Holy cow it’s impressive! I have a 400+ foot driveway. Had the monitor inside the external garage and put the camera out by the mailbox. Picture was as clear as it was at 1 foot. I then put the camera inside my attached garage on the bumper of one of my cars which is probably 250 feet from the monitor going thru multiple cars, closed garage doors and walls and it worked great. Like I said impressive!
3. Magnet mount strength – again another impressive feature, this will not come off without a significant pull.
4. Picture Quality – see attached photo which just like the above pros, very impressive, colors/contrast are sharp and can be adjusted on the monitor if desired. Night vision- I put the camera in a 100% pitch black closet that has no light and the IR night vision picked everything up with surprisingly no granularity.
5. Construction/build of the system – the camera is very sturdy and well built. The monitor seemed light in weight (my iPhone is heavier) but works fine and since this is the inside piece, it should hold up. All the mounting brackets/plugs seem adequate. There is a slight design flaw with the camera angle adjustment. When the antenna is mounted the camera cannot be adjusted to to its flat 180 degree angle setting – think of this viewing angle as a parallel plane to the road which is what you want unless your viewing the tow hitch, this is due to the too shallow cutout in the case (see my attached pictures). Now your saying why would this be important? Mounting the camera horizontally on the truck tailgate and not being able adjust the camera to its full 180 degree position, the lens will be pointed 10-15 degrees down not allowing you to view an open trailer behind you or if mounted on the trailer horizontally, the road behind the trailer will not be fully viewable as the lens will be facing slightly downward looking at the pavement vice the cars. This issue can be overcome a number of ways by mounting the camera vertically, getting a different style antenna (rope) OR don’t use the antenna at all. I put the camera on the tailgate of my truck without the antenna in it, had the antenna on the monitor and it worked fine.
6. Camera runtime – now I haven’t tested this yet but I emailed the manufacturer prior to buying and received a very prompt reply stating the camera has a 18 hour daylight/9 hour night vision runtime. This seems on par with the 9600 mah battery they use and far exceeds any competitors claims. This makes this camera perfect for those who want to attach the camera to the back of their truck or trailer and see the traffic behind for the length of a normal drive and then recharge.
7. Value – compared to the competition, this system cannot be beat period, do your own research if you need more convincing.
CONS:
None really, a few inconveniences. Yes the buttons located on the back of the monitor and the inability to have the camera look a flat 180 degrees (see my attached pictures) with the antenna attached are design issues that can be overcome. Maybe the manufacturer will read this and correct on the next model.
OVERALL:
This a a GREAT system that IMO is tremendous value for your dollar. I hope this review addresses some of the questions you might have prior to buying. The 14 previous reviews had this at 5*s and you should believe the hype. It’s really that good!
