Same Gig, another New to Me Rig.

TL;DR: Company truck switcharoo with aged equipment. Out with the old and in with the old.

My beloved Volvo I was originally assigned when I got my license upgrade has been marked for disposal. Apparently too many things were needed for a new inspection sticker. It was a 10yr old truck with not even a million kilometers, however was starting to show its age.

The last two months I have been using a spare Volvo (automatic, I was getting used to it and honestly it was pretty decent) and was told that it was going to be my new assignment. I had held off putting anything in the cab as it was a spare. After finding out that my old truck was to be crushed into a cube or sold at auction I was given the green light to take over the spare. It took a couple weeks to line up a time to move my belongings in. Soon as I moved everything in, it was then taken away: another driver needed an automatic and the spare was to be theirs. After moving everything out ASAP, I have now been re-assigned to a 2014-2015 Freightliner Cascadia with almost 1.5 million kilometers (just about a million miles).

I’m low on the totem pole so new equipment is going to be near impossible for me to be assigned. Even if I were to get a newer model, it will have been put through its paces long before it reaches me. Just the way it is, I’m quickly learning.

The important thing is it’s clean-ish, and doesn’t reek of stale cigarettes and Black Ice. The AC works, it’s a 10spd manual, much bigger bunk (downside being a longer truck overall. I’m quite fond of the shorter Volvos) and the inspection is fresh and good ‘til 2025. Steers and stops. Came with a working mini fridge and to my surprise it actually works. I’m just hoping the moment I can move in, it’s not taken away the next day.
