CDL Jobs Driver Jobs Food Pets when I started spending more time on the road I just started packing what I felt was right for the time of year but I've never really looked into what others do.
what kind of work do you do, how long are you gone, and how much do you pack?
I'm starting with a new heavy haul company and they claim their drivers get one week off for every month they're out, however they choose to take it. I'm thinking two months out/two weeks home seems like a good medium for me personally and I'm getting all my shit packed tonight. but I've also worked for a company with no set schedule at all and the longest I was gone there was from the last week of January until the middle of October. but no matter what I always pack one big suitcase and I can fit about 20 pairs of socks and underwear, 20 t-shirts, 10 or 12 pairs of jeans and 4 or 5 hoodies. and then I have an overnight bag that's just a large duffel that I can fit 5 pairs of socks and underwear, 5 t-shirts, 2-3 pairs of jeans and a hoodie in as well as all of my toiletries, chargers, iPad, a couple books, and my rock hard memory foam pillow that I unfortunately can't sleep without because of a neck injury about 15 years ago. and then I have one small bag with things like flip flops, shorts, swim trunks, extra contact lenses, tide pods and hygiene products and stuff I wouldn't need on a regular basis but would take with me if I had a long weekend in a hotel or something. and lastly just a big canvas laundry bag to stuff the worn clothes into until I get a chance to do laundry.
all my work gear like PPE and tools just go in a big Rubbermaid box if I'm moving from one truck to another but then I'll just leave them in the truck on time off so I don't really count that as stuff I pack.
how long are you guys out and what do you bring with you? any tips or tricks for packing lighter while still being well-equipped for whatever you may need to do?
